KB0185 - Cannot upgrade RC 3.7.10 to RC 3.8

 

Symptom

When you try to upgrade your Resource Central system from any RC 3.7.10 revision to RC 3.8, the [Next] button in RC 3.8 installer does not respond, because of which the upgrade fails.

Note: This issue only occurs in a few Windows servers.

 

Cause

RC 3.8 uses a fixed name for the installation folder of RC, which is ResourceCentral (without any space). By default, this folder is located at: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ResourceCentral.

In some Windows servers, the name for installation folder of RC 3.7.10 is Resource Central (with a space between 2 words). Therefore, in upgrading process, RC 3.8 installer cannot detect the installation folder à Upgrade fails.

 

Work around

IT staff who is responsible for upgrading/installation should check the name of installation folder in the existing system:

-          If the name is ResourceCentral, he can go on and install RC 3.8

-          If the name is Resource Central, he should uninstall the existing RC 3.7.10 and then install RC 3.8 from scratch.

 

Resolution

This defect has been taken into account and will be resolved in Resource Central 4.0.
