KB0112 - How to prevent users from creating recurring appointments without end-date

 

Summary

In order to prevent users from creating meetings/appointments with no end-date, you can select one of the following methods:

Option 1: Force a default end date in Outlook.

After doing this, the default setting will be to end after a number of days from “today”.

1. Open Registry Editor

2. Go to Calendar node, it is located in the following node (based on version of your Outlook):

Outlook 2013

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar

Outlook 2010

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar

Outlook 2007

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar

3. In the Calendar node, create a new DWORD (32-bit) value

4. Name of this DWORD value:  RecurrencesDefault

5. Modify details of this value:

- Value data: number of days from “today”, after which the recurrence will end.

- Base: Use a Decimal value.

6. Click [OK] to finish.

Option 2: Disable No End Date option

Disable the ‘No end date’ option for recurring items using the DisableRecurNoEnd registry value. This can be set in the Outlook branch of the registry by following these steps:

1. Open Registry Editor

2. Go to Preferences node, it is located in the following node (based on version of your Outlook):

Outlook 2013

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Preferences

Outlook 2010

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Preferences

Outlook 2007

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Preferences

3. In the Preferences node, create a new DWORD (32-bit) value

4. Name of this DWORD value:  DisableRecurNoEnd

5. Modify details of this value:

- Value data: 1 = Enabled (No End Date allowed)

- Base: Use a Decimal value

6. Click [OK] to finish
